Yesterday, a jury found Jonathan Majors guilty of two misdemeanor counts of harassment and assault. Majors faces possible jail time—his sentencing will take place in February—but one decision has already been made: Marvel Studios swiftly dropped the actor, who played a major role in Loki and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. His character, Kang the Conqueror, was central to the end of the Multiverse Saga; the title of first of the closing two films, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, makes that clear.
Recently, Marvel brought Michael Waldron on to write the screenplay for The Kang Dynasty; Deadline notes that the writer “was brought aboard to give these Avengers movies a fresh take given the situation here with Majors.” But The Hollywood Reporter says the Waldron-written film “was once called Kang Dynasty, but is now being referred to as Avengers 5, according to sources.”
According to The New York Times, “The studio will now move forward with the movie without Mr. Majors.” Nothing more has been clarified. That could mean a recast (not Marvel’s first time at the recasting rodeo), or it could mean a whole new villain. People do love to theorize about Doctor Doom, especially with the recent Fantastic Four casting rumors. But those are all just theories—for now.
